Today we wanted to call your attention to the recognition of something very important. Here in the United States (for our international friends and followers), June 19th is an unofficial American holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the United States. You can read more about the history and significance of the date here, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juneteenth.
We at AIKON want to express our support for the #blacklivesmatter movement. We believe in the struggle against racism worldwide. The blockchain and cryptocurrency industry has always been a global community of all ethnicities, colors, genders and backgrounds connected through a shared belief that we can build a more fair and equitable world. Together we share the pain of voices fighting to be heard and implore everyone to #BeBetter everyday.
PRIDE AND PAIN
Our very own CEO, Marc has published his own thought piece about the recent violence resulting in the death of two trans african american women, Riah Milton and Rem’Mie Fells, and then reflecting on a tweetstorm involving JK Rolling and the trans community, and anecdotes on how he has dealt with abuse in his past. It’s an open and very personal piece and we hope you take the time to read it.
If you were moved by it we hope you will also consider supporting his Change.org petition in support of trans people and people who have survived abuse in their lives. https://www.change.org/PrideForJKR
OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP OUT
itch.io released a massive Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality that raised over $8 million in funds to be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and Community Bail Fund. While it’s too late to back this bundle, you can look for more ways to help here: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/
Some of our favorites include supporting Black Owned Businesses especially as we are all still all reeling from the effects of COVID-19 and for our fellow Americans, don’t forget to vote because your voice is more important than ever.
